Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel International Airport (IATA code: HAM), which was opened in 1912 and completely modernised in 2005, is Germany’s oldest airport still in operation.
It is located a few kilometres to the north of the city centre. The taxi ride costs around €25, but the easiest and cheapest way to travel to or from the airport is to take the S1 line of the S-Bahn (metro rail network): 25-minute journey leaving every 10 minutes at the cost of €3.10 a ticket (make sure you are in the carriages at the front of the train).
